As a Eugene, Oregon couples and engagement photographer, my goal is to make your session feel easy, natural, fun, and completely you.
You don't need to know how to pose. You don't need to be a model. And you definitely don't need to show up knowing exactly what you want.
I'll help you with all of that.
Your Session Is About You
Every couple is different, so I don't believe in making every session look the same.
Maybe you're romantic and quiet. Maybe you're goofy and can't stop laughing. Maybe you're adventurous and would rather hike to a waterfall than walk through a park. Maybe you want something modern and urban.
Whatever your style, we'll build your session around the two of you.
We'll talk about what you want your photographs to feel like, what you enjoy doing together, and what kind of setting fits your personalities.
The goal is to create photographs that feel like you...not like you copied someone else's engagement photos.
Choosing Your Location
One of the fun parts of planning your session is deciding where we'll photograph.
We can keep things local with a beautiful Eugene park, garden, field, riverfront location, or urban setting. Downtown Eugene can be especially fun for couples who want something a little more modern, editorial, or casual.
Or, we can make an adventure out of it.
Think waterfalls, mountains, forests, wildflowers, lakes, or the Oregon Coast.
Yes, I travel!
If there's somewhere you've always wanted photographs together, tell me. It doesn't have to be a traditional photography location. A favorite coffee shop, the place you had your first date, a trail you love, or somewhere that simply feels like you can make a meaningful backdrop.
And while location matters, light matters even more. I'll help you choose a time of day that works beautifully with the location and the look we're going for.
What Should We Wear?
This is probably one of the biggest questions couples have.
My biggest advice: wear something that feels like you.
You don't have to perfectly match. Instead, choose colors, textures, and styles that complement each other.
Think about the location and the overall feeling you want, too. A flowing dress can look beautiful in a field or on the coast, while jeans and boots might be perfect for an adventurous mountain session.
And if you can't decide between outfits, bring both! Changing outfits can give your gallery two completely different looks.
A few things to think about:
Coordinate rather than perfectly match.
Consider colors that complement each other.
Choose clothing you can comfortably move in.
Think about the location and weather.
Avoid anything you're constantly going to be adjusting.
Bring comfortable shoes if we're hiking or walking.
Don't be afraid to dress up!
And one small detail that's easy to overlook: your hands will be in a lot of photographs.
Clean, neat nails are a good idea, especially if you're showing off a new engagement ring. You don't need a professional manicure—just clean and tidy is perfect.
Bring the Things That Make It Yours
Your session doesn't have to be just the two of you standing in a pretty location.
Want to pop champagne?
Let's do it.
Want your dog in some of the photos?
Absolutely.
Have a personalized sign, flowers, a favorite blanket, books, coffee, a picnic setup, or something meaningful to your relationship?
Bring it!
You can even incorporate hobbies, favorite activities, your car, motorcycle, instruments, a picnic or other things that tell a little piece of your story.
These details aren't required, but they can make your session feel much more personal, and they're often some of the most fun photographs to create.
You Don't Have to Know How to Pose
If the thought of being photographed makes you nervous, you're not alone.
Most people don't know what to do in front of a camera.
That's where I come in.
I'll guide you through the entire session with a combination of posing, movement, and prompts. I'll tell you where to stand, what to do with your hands, where to look, and how to interact with each other.
We'll walk, move, laugh, snuggle, dance, talk, and probably do a few things that feel a little silly at first.
I'll also make sure we get a variety of images, from those beautiful photographs where you're looking at each other to the ones where you're looking directly at the camera.
My goal is to give you enough direction that you never feel lost, while still leaving room for those genuine moments to happen.
You don't have to perform.
Just be yourselves. I'll take care of the rest.

One of my favorite things about couples photography is that it doesn't have to feel like an appointment you have to get through.
Make an evening of it.
Grab dinner afterward. Explore somewhere new. Bring your dog. Pop some champagne. Take a little road trip. Stop for coffee.

The photographs are important, but so is the experience of creating them.
Years from now, you'll have more than beautiful images, you'll have photographs that bring you back to this particular season of your relationship.

During your session, I'll guide you through posing and movement so you never have to wonder what you're supposed to do.
I'm watching the light, your positioning, expressions, hands, and all those little details while you focus on each other.
And we'll have fun while we're doing it.
Because I don't think your photography session should feel stiff or stressful.
It should feel like you two, having a really good time together.
