The Ultimate Guide to Family Photography in Eugene, Oregon

Family & Portrait Photographer In Eugene, Oregon

Family, maternity, milestones, and all the little moments worth remembering.

Your Family Is Only This Age Once

There are seasons of life that seem to last forever when you're living them, and then, somehow, they're gone. As a mother myself, I have experieced this and it is both devistating and rewarding and sad and beautiful all at the same time.

The tiny fingers you once held in your hand get bigger. The toddler who needed to be carried everywhere suddenly wants to run ahead. Your baby's first birthday arrives before you're ready for it. Your family changes, grows, and evolves in ways you don't always notice from day to day.

That's one of the reasons I love family photography.

Family photography isn't really about getting everyone to look at the camera and smile.

It's about preserving this version of your family.

The personalities. The relationships. The belly laughs. The little hands. The way your child looks at you. The way your family interacts when nobody is paying attention to the camera.

As a family photographer in Eugene, Oregon, I want your photographs to bring you back to this exact season of your life, not just remind you what everyone looked like.

Whether you're expecting your first baby, celebrating a milestone, welcoming a new family member, or simply realizing that it's been far too long since you've had photographs of everyone together, a family session gives you the opportunity to stop for a moment and preserve it.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about family photography in Eugene, Oregon, including maternity sessions, baby milestones, family portraits, choosing a location, what to wear, preparing children, and what to expect during your session.

What Is Family Photography?

Family photography can mean something different to every family.

For some, it's an annual family portrait session.

For others, it's maternity photographs before welcoming a new baby, documenting a baby's first year, celebrating a first birthday, or gathering multiple generations together.

At its heart, family photography is about connection.

A family session can include traditional portraits where everyone is looking at the camera, but I also want to capture the moments that happen naturally in between.

Maybe your toddler runs into your arms.

Maybe your children start laughing uncontrollably.

Maybe your partner whispers something that makes you smile.

Maybe your baby reaches for your face.

Those moments are often the photographs you'll treasure most.

Family Photography Doesn't Have to Feel Stiff

If the thought of a family photo session makes you picture everyone standing in a straight line, saying "cheese," and trying desperately to keep the kids from moving, don't worry.

That's not how I want your session to feel.

Children are allowed to move.

Parents are allowed to interact with their kids.

You can laugh.

You can cuddle.

You can play.

You can walk.

You can pick your child up.

You can let your kids be themselves.

I'll still make sure we get those beautiful photographs where everyone is looking at the camera, but we'll also create images that feel genuine and full of life.

The goal is to give you photographs that look and feel like your family.

Family Photography for Every Season of Life

One of my favorite things about family photography is that it doesn't have to happen only once.

Your family is constantly changing, and there are so many different chapters worth documenting.

Maternity Photography

Pregnancy is an incredibly unique season.

Your body is changing. Your family is growing. You're preparing to meet someone you've already begun loving before you've ever seen their face.

Maternity photography gives you a chance to document that anticipation.

Your session can focus entirely on you and your growing belly, or it can include your partner, children, and even pets.

Maternity photographs can be romantic, joyful, intimate, playful, or completely natural. There isn't one right way to document pregnancy.

The most important thing is creating photographs that feel like you.

Newborn & Baby Photography

Your baby's first weeks and months can feel like a blur.

You're tired. You're learning a new routine. You're adjusting to an entirely different life.

And somehow, those tiny details change almost overnight.

Newborn and baby photography preserves those details:

  • Tiny fingers and toes

  • Sleepy expressions

  • Baby's first smiles

  • The way they fit against your chest

  • Family cuddles

  • Sibling interactions

  • The nursery

  • Everyday moments at home

Newborn photographs don't have to be overly posed or elaborate.

Some of the most meaningful images are simple photographs of a new family getting to know one another.

Milestone Photography

Your baby's first year is full of changes.

Every few months, they seem like a completely different little person.

Milestone photography gives you an opportunity to document those changes without needing to schedule a full traditional family session every time.

Milestones might include:

Three Months

Your baby is becoming more expressive, starting to smile, and interacting with the world around them.

Six Months

They're often sitting, laughing, reaching, and becoming much more engaged with their surroundings.

Nine Months

Crawling, pulling up, exploring, and developing a huge personality.

One Year

The first birthday is a major milestone—and a wonderful time to document just how much your baby has changed.

Of course, these aren't rules.

Every child develops differently, and any age can be worth documenting.

Family Portraits

You don't need a special occasion to have family photographs taken.

Sometimes the reason is simply:

"We haven't had professional family photos in years."

That's reason enough.

Family portrait sessions can document your family exactly as it is right now.

They can include parents and children, siblings, grandparents, blended families, adult children, or any combination that makes your family yours.

You don't need everyone to be perfectly behaved.

You don't need matching outfits.

And you definitely don't need to wait until your family looks "perfect."

There is no perfect time.

There is only this time.

Extended Family & Generational Photography

There is something especially meaningful about photographs that include multiple generations.

Grandparents with grandchildren.

Adult siblings together.

Parents with their grown children.

Cousins who don't get to see one another often.

These photographs become increasingly valuable as the years pass.

Extended-family sessions require a little more planning and organization, but they can create an incredible collection of photographs that your entire family can treasure.

We'll make sure to capture the larger group as well as smaller combinations, such as:

  • Grandparents with grandchildren

  • Individual families

  • Siblings

  • Parents and children

  • Couples

  • Grandparents individually with each grandchild

This gives you a gallery filled with both the big family photograph and the smaller relationships within it.

Why I Love Photographing Families

There is something incredibly special about being invited into someone's life with a camera.

I'm not there simply to document what your family looks like.

I'm there to document how you love one another.

I want to capture the way your child reaches for you, the way siblings interact, the way you laugh together, and all those little things that make your family uniquely yours.

Some of my favorite photographs aren't the perfectly posed ones.

They're the ones where everyone forgets I'm there.

That's when personalities come out.

That's when genuine connection happens.

And that's when photographs become memories.

Your Family Doesn't Have to Be "Photogenic"

Let's talk about this one because I hear it all the time.

"We're terrible at pictures."

"My husband hates having his photo taken."

"My kids won't sit still."

"My toddler is going to ruin everything."

I promise—you are not the first family to tell me this.

You don't need to know how to pose.

Your children don't need to behave perfectly.

And you don't need to know what to do with your hands.

That's my job.

I'll guide you through the session while giving your family plenty of room to interact naturally.

Sometimes I'll give you a traditional pose.

Sometimes I'll ask you to walk together.

Sometimes I'll have you play with your children.

Sometimes I'll simply let something happen and photograph it.

The goal is to create a balance between beautiful portraits and authentic moments.

Because years from now, you probably won't remember whether everyone smiled perfectly.

You'll remember how small your child was in your arms.

You'll remember the way your family laughed.

You'll remember what this season felt like.

That's what I want your photographs to preserve.

Choosing the Perfect Location for Your Family Photos

One of the best things about living in Eugene is that we have so many beautiful places to photograph families.

From lush forests and open fields to urban spaces and quiet riverfront locations, there are countless ways to create a session that feels completely different from the last one.

When choosing a location, I don't believe you need to pick the most popular photography spot in town.

Instead, I want to know:

What feels like your family?

Maybe you love spending time outdoors.

Maybe your family is happiest exploring trails together.

Maybe you prefer something urban and modern.

Maybe you want soft golden light in an open field.

Or perhaps your favorite place is somewhere completely unexpected.

The location should complement your family and the kind of photographs you want to create.

Outdoor Family Photography in Eugene

Eugene is an incredible place for outdoor family photography.

The Pacific Northwest gives us an amazing variety of landscapes throughout the year, which means your photographs don't have to look the same every time you have a session.

Depending on the season and the look you're going for, we can incorporate:

  • Forests

  • Meadows

  • Open fields

  • Riverfront areas

  • Gardens

  • Urban streets

  • Parks

  • Wildflowers

  • Fall foliage

  • Evergreen trees

  • Mountain and foothill views

I especially love using natural environments because they give families room to move and interact.

Instead of worrying about standing perfectly still, your children can explore, walk, run, play, and simply be themselves.

That movement often creates some of the most genuine photographs.

Golden Hour Family Photography

There is a reason photographers talk about golden hour so much.

The hour around sunset can create beautiful, soft, warm light that is incredibly flattering for portraits.

It can give your photographs:

  • Warm skin tones

  • Soft highlights

  • Gentle shadows

  • Beautiful backlighting

  • Glowing fields

  • Dreamy backgrounds

Golden hour is especially beautiful in open fields and natural landscapes.

It isn't always the best choice for every family, though.

Young children may have an earlier bedtime, or your family may simply function better earlier in the day.

That's completely okay.

Beautiful photographs don't require a specific time of day.

We'll choose the timing and location based on your family, the season, and the look you're hoping to create.

Family Photography in Every Season

One of the wonderful things about Oregon is that every season gives us something different.

Spring Family Photos

Spring brings fresh greenery, blossoms, wildflowers, and longer days.

It's a beautiful time for families who want bright, colorful, fresh-looking photographs.

Spring sessions can have a light and airy feeling while still maintaining that beautiful Pacific Northwest character.

Summer Family Photos

Summer gives us longer evenings, warm temperatures, green landscapes, and beautiful golden-hour light.

It's one of the most popular times of year for outdoor family photography, especially for families who want to take advantage of Eugene's natural surroundings.

Fall Family Photos

Fall brings warm colors, changing leaves, and a completely different atmosphere.

If you love rich autumn colors, fall is a beautiful time to schedule family portraits.

Just remember that Oregon's fall weather can change quickly, so flexibility is helpful.

Winter Family Photos

Winter doesn't mean you have to skip family photographs.

The Pacific Northwest can create beautiful moody, cozy, and evergreen-filled photographs during the colder months.

We can also consider indoor locations or studio photography when the weather isn't cooperating.

Studio vs. Outdoor Family Photography

There isn't one "right" setting for family photographs.

Both studio and outdoor sessions offer something different.

Outdoor Sessions

Outdoor photography is wonderful if you want:

  • Natural movement

  • Nature

  • Variety

  • Beautiful natural light

  • A relaxed environment

  • A distinctly Oregon feel

Studio Sessions

Studio photography can be a great option if you want:

  • A controlled environment

  • Consistent lighting

  • No weather concerns

  • A clean, timeless background

  • A more editorial look

The best option depends entirely on your family and the style you're drawn to.

Sometimes we can even combine approaches.

What Should We Wear for Family Photos?

This may be the question I hear most often.

And my biggest piece of advice is:

Don't overthink it.

You don't need perfectly matching outfits.

In fact, I generally prefer families to coordinate rather than match.

When everyone wears the exact same color and style, photographs can sometimes look overly uniform.

Instead, think about creating a cohesive color palette.

How to Coordinate Family Outfits

Start with one outfit you love.

This might be Mom's dress, Dad's shirt, or even your child's favorite outfit.

Then build the rest of the family's clothing around it.

Think about colors that work well together:

  • Earth tones

  • Creams

  • Soft neutrals

  • Muted greens

  • Warm browns

  • Soft blues

  • Rust

  • Terracotta

  • Dusty rose

You don't have to use all of these.

The idea is simply to choose colors that complement each other rather than competing.

Think About Texture

Texture can add a lot of visual interest to photographs.

Consider incorporating:

  • Knits

  • Linen

  • Denim

  • Corduroy

  • Lace

  • Woven fabrics

  • Soft sweaters

  • Layered clothing

Textures photograph beautifully, especially in natural environments.

For example, a simple neutral dress paired with a textured cardigan can create much more visual interest than several completely flat fabrics.

Don't Forget About Shoes

Shoes are often overlooked when planning family photographs.

If we're outdoors, you'll want footwear that is comfortable enough to walk and move around in.

Depending on the location, that might mean boots, sandals, sneakers, or even going barefoot.

And if we're photographing in a natural setting, remember that your shoes may get dirty.

That's okay.

Family photography doesn't have to be spotless.

What Should Kids Wear?

The most important thing is comfort.

If your child hates an outfit, they're probably going to spend the entire session uncomfortable—and that discomfort can show in photographs.

Choose clothing that allows them to:

  • Move

  • Sit

  • Run

  • Play

  • Walk

  • Be picked up

  • Explore

Avoid clothing that constantly needs to be adjusted.

And if your child has a favorite item of clothing that feels like them, don't automatically rule it out just because it isn't what you originally envisioned.

Their personality matters more than creating a perfectly styled photograph.

Things I Would Avoid

There are a few things that can become distracting in photographs.

I generally recommend avoiding:

  • Large logos

  • Neon colors (unless that is the theme, then I am all for it!)

  • Extremely busy patterns

  • Everyone wearing the exact same outfit (Again, unless that is your desired look!)

  • Clothing that is uncomfortable

  • Brand-new shoes that haven't been broken in

  • Anything that makes you feel unlike yourself

Most importantly, don't choose an outfit simply because you think it's what a "family photo outfit" is supposed to look like.

Choose something that makes you feel confident.

When you feel good, it shows.

What If Someone Gets Dirty?

They probably will.

And that's okay.

Especially with children, I don't want you spending the entire session saying:

"Don't touch that!"

"Don't get dirty!"

"Be careful!"

If we're outdoors, let them explore.

Some of the best photographs happen when children are allowed to be children.

A little dirt on a pair of pants is much easier to deal with than a child who spent an entire session being told not to have fun.

Your Location Doesn't Have to Be "Perfect"

One final thought about choosing a location:

Don't get too caught up in finding the perfect backdrop.

The location is important, but your family is the story.

A beautiful field won't magically create meaningful photographs if everyone is uncomfortable.

Likewise, an ordinary location can produce incredible images when your family is relaxed, connected, and having fun.

My job is to find the light, composition, and moments that make your family look and feel amazing.

You just get to show up and be yourselves.

How to Prepare for Your Family Photography Session

You've chosen your location. You've figured out what everyone is going to wear. Now comes the part many parents worry about most:

What if my kids don't cooperate?

Here's my advice:

Don't worry about it.

Seriously.

Children are unpredictable. They get tired, hungry, shy, silly, excited, frustrated, and distracted. Sometimes they decide that the one thing they absolutely do not want to do is participate in family photographs.

That's okay.

You don't need to arrive with perfectly behaved children.

You just need to arrive as yourselves.

My job is to work with your family exactly as you are that day—not to force your children into behaving like tiny professional models.

How to Prepare Your Kids

There are a few things you can do before your session to make the experience easier.

Don't Build It Up Too Much

You don't need to tell your children:

"You have to smile for the photographer!"

"You need to behave!"

"We have to get good pictures!"

That can create unnecessary pressure.

Instead, make the session sound like what it actually is:

Something fun we're going to do together.

Tell them we're going to explore, play, walk, cuddle, and take some photographs along the way.

Make Sure Everyone Has Eaten If Possible

Hungry children are rarely interested in family portraits.

Try to schedule your session around your family's normal eating patterns whenever possible.

And bring snacks!

Small, non-messy snacks can be incredibly helpful, especially for younger children.

A few good options might include:

  • Crackers

  • Dry cereal

  • Fruit snacks

  • Small fruit pieces

  • Pouches

Try to avoid anything that can leave colorful residue around mouths or on clothing right before photographs.

And don't forget water.

Bring Comfort Items

If your child has a favorite stuffed animal, blanket, pacifier, or other comfort item, bring it.

You may not use it in every photograph, but having something familiar nearby can help a nervous child feel more comfortable.

Sometimes we'll even incorporate a special toy into a few photographs.

Those images can become meaningful reminders of what your child loved at that particular age.

Don't Skip the Nap If Possible

If your child still naps, try to schedule your session around their normal routine.

A tired toddler can turn into a very unhappy toddler very quickly.

Of course, schedules don't always cooperate—and that's okay.

We can work around real life.

What If My Child Is Shy?

Some children need time to warm up.

They may hide behind you.

They may refuse to look at the camera.

They may stare at me suspiciously for the first fifteen minutes.

That's completely normal.

I don't want to force interaction.

Instead, I'll give them space.

We'll start with activities that feel comfortable and familiar, and I'll let them get used to me and the camera.

Often, once children realize I'm not going to demand that they smile at me, they relax.

And that's when the magic happens.

What If My Toddler Has a Meltdown?

They might.

And if they do, we'll handle it.

There is no reason to panic.

Take a breath.

Give them a minute.

Hold them.

Comfort them.

Let them reset.

Sometimes we'll move on to photographing someone else for a few minutes.

Sometimes we'll change locations.

Sometimes we'll turn the session into a game.

And sometimes we simply wait.

You don't have to apologize for your child being a child.

Don't Discipline for the Camera

This is one of the biggest pieces of advice I can give parents.

Try not to spend your entire session correcting your child because you're worried about getting a "good picture."

If your child is constantly hearing:

"Stop."

"Sit still."

"Look here."

"Smile."

"Don't touch that."

they're probably not going to feel relaxed.

And relaxed children make better photographs.

Let me take care of the photography.

You take care of loving your kids.

What Should You Bring?

You don't need to pack your entire house, but a small session bag can be helpful.

Consider bringing:

  • Water

  • Snacks

  • Tissues

  • Wipes

  • Hairbrush

  • Extra diapers

  • A change of clothes for young children

  • Comfort item

  • Any meaningful props

And bring whatever your family genuinely needs to feel comfortable.

Including Your Pets

Absolutely.

If your dog is part of your family, I want them included too.

Pets can add so much personality to family photographs.

Depending on the location and your pet's personality, we can photograph:

  • Everyone together

  • Parents with the dog

  • Children with the dog

  • Individual portraits with your pet

  • Walking photographs

  • Playful moments

Just make sure your pet is allowed at the location and bring anything they'll need during the session.

A leash, treats, water, waste bags, and a favorite toy are all good things to have nearby.

What Happens During Your Family Session?

You might be surprised to learn that I don't expect you to spend the entire session standing still and smiling.

Instead, we'll create a variety of photographs.

We'll probably start with some easier poses so everyone can get comfortable.

Then we'll move.

We might walk.

You might pick up your child.

Siblings might play together.

Parents might cuddle their kids.

I'll give you prompts that encourage genuine interaction rather than simply telling everyone to smile.

For example, I might ask you to:

  • Walk together

  • Whisper something funny

  • Give your child a big hug

  • Spin your toddler around

  • Play a game

  • Snuggle together

  • Tell your child something you love about them

  • Let your kids run toward you

These prompts give everyone something to do, which is much more natural than simply standing in front of a camera.

You Don't Need to Know How to Pose

This is my job.

You don't need to practice poses before your session.

You don't need to look at Pinterest and memorize what your hands are supposed to do.

You don't need to know your "good side."

I'll guide you.

I'll make adjustments when needed, but I'll also pay attention to the moments when you naturally interact with your family.

My goal is to create photographs that look effortless—not photographs where you can tell exactly how much work went into getting everyone into position.

The Best Photographs Often Happen Between Poses

There is something I always tell my clients:

Don't worry about the camera.

Some of my favorite photographs happen when families stop thinking about being photographed.

A child laughs.

A parent kisses their baby's forehead.

Siblings start playing.

Someone makes a ridiculous face.

Everyone relaxes.

Those are the moments I want to capture.

Because those photographs don't just show what your family looked like.

They show what your family felt like.

What If We Don't Get Along With the Camera?

That's okay too.

You don't have to love having your picture taken.

Many parents tell me they would rather be behind the camera.

But I want to remind you of something:

Your children deserve photographs with you in them.

Years from now, your kids aren't going to care whether you thought you looked perfect that day.

They're going to want to see you.

They're going to want to see how you held them.

They're going to want to see what you looked like when they were little.

They're going to want proof that you were there, loving them through every stage.

So don't wait until you lose the baby weight.

Don't wait until your hair is different.

Don't wait until you feel more confident.

Don't wait until your house is perfect.

Be in the photographs.

Your family will thank you someday.

Let the Session Be What It Is

Sometimes a family session is calm and beautiful.

Sometimes it's loud.

Sometimes there are tears.

Sometimes someone needs a snack break.

Sometimes we spend ten minutes chasing a toddler.

Sometimes the kids surprise everyone and cooperate perfectly.

There is no perfect family session.

And that's exactly why I don't want to manufacture one.

I want to photograph your family.

The real one.

The one that laughs too loudly.

The one that loves deeply.

The one that may be a little chaotic.

The one that is changing every single day.

Because someday, this season will be over.

And you'll be grateful you documented it exactly as it was.

When Should You Book Your Family Photography Session?

There isn't one perfect time of year—or one perfect age—to have family photographs taken.

If you're wondering whether now is the right time, my answer is usually pretty simple:

If you want to remember this season of your family's life, it's worth photographing.

That said, certain milestones and seasons can help you plan ahead.

Maternity Sessions

Maternity photographs are typically scheduled during the later part of pregnancy, when your belly is beautifully visible but you're still feeling comfortable enough to enjoy your session.

Every pregnancy is different, so there's no need to obsess over finding the exact "perfect" week.

If you're interested in maternity photography, I recommend reaching out early enough that we have plenty of flexibility when choosing your session date.

And if you're already further along?

Don't assume you've missed your opportunity.

Beautiful maternity photographs can be created at many different stages of pregnancy.

Your Baby's First Year

The first year goes unbelievably fast.

If you'd like to document multiple stages, you can plan sessions around milestones rather than trying to photograph every single month.

A simple approach might be:

Maternity → Newborn → 6 Months → 1 Year

Or:

Newborn → 3 Months → 6 Months → 9 Months → 1 Year

Or you might decide that one milestone session is enough.

There is no right answer.

Your family gets to decide which moments matter most to you.

First Birthdays

A first birthday is a huge milestone.

Your baby has changed so much in just one year, and a birthday session is a wonderful way to document their personality at this particular age.

We can keep things simple with portraits and family photographs, or incorporate:

  • A birthday theme

  • A favorite toy

  • A cake

  • Balloons

  • Special clothing

  • Meaningful family details

The goal isn't to create a picture-perfect birthday.

It's to remember your child at one year old.

Annual Family Photography

For many families, an annual session is the easiest way to make sure professional photographs don't get pushed aside.

You don't necessarily need to do the same thing every year.

One year you might choose a wildflower field.

Another year might be the forest.

Another might be an urban Eugene location.

Another might be a studio session.

Changing your location and style keeps your photographs interesting while creating a visual record of how your family grows over time.

You Don't Have to Wait for a Milestone

This may be the most important thing in this entire guide.

You don't need an excuse.

You don't need a birthday.

You don't need a new baby.

You don't need a holiday.

You don't need a family reunion.

You don't need to wait until everyone has grown their hair out or lost weight or gotten through the awkward stage.

You can simply decide:

I want to remember this.

Maybe your children are at an age you particularly love.

Maybe your family has recently moved.

Maybe you've welcomed a new pet.

Maybe your kids are finally old enough to explore together.

Maybe your family has changed in a way that deserves to be documented.

Those are all reasons.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Photography

Where do you offer family photography?

I primarily photograph families in and around Eugene, Oregon, using a variety of outdoor locations, natural settings, and studio options depending on the look you're hoping to create.

If you have a particular location in mind, we can discuss whether it's a good fit for your session.

How far in advance should I book?

The sooner you reach out, the more flexibility we'll have with dates and locations.

This is especially helpful for maternity sessions, fall family photography, holiday photographs, and other popular times of year.

That said, it's always worth asking about availability—even if you're hoping to schedule something relatively soon.

What happens if it rains?

This is Oregon, after all.

Rain doesn't automatically mean your session has to be canceled.

Sometimes overcast skies create gorgeous, soft light that's actually wonderful for portraits.

If conditions become unsafe or the weather would significantly interfere with the session, we'll discuss rescheduling.

The priority is always creating photographs you're excited to have.

What if my kids don't behave?

They probably won't behave perfectly.

And that's okay.

Children are children.

I don't expect them to sit still and smile for an hour. My approach incorporates movement, play, interaction, and natural moments so your children can be themselves.

If someone needs a break, we'll take one.

If someone needs a snack, we'll have a snack.

If someone has a meltdown, we'll take a breath and regroup.

You don't need to apologize.

Can we include our dog?

Yes!

Pets are part of the family, and I love incorporating them into family sessions whenever the location allows.

Just let me know ahead of time so we can choose a location that's pet-friendly and plan accordingly.

What should we wear?

Choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Coordinating colors and textures usually photographs better than everyone wearing identical outfits.

Neutrals, earth tones, soft colors, and natural textures tend to work beautifully with Eugene's outdoor environments, but your clothing should ultimately reflect your family's personality.

Do we have to take all of our photographs outside?

Not at all.

Outdoor photography is one of my favorite ways to photograph families, but studio sessions can create a completely different look.

Depending on your vision, we can also photograph your family in another meaningful environment.

Can grandparents or extended family join us?

Absolutely.

Extended-family sessions can be incredibly meaningful, especially when multiple generations don't get to be together often.

Just let me know how many people will be participating so we can plan the session and location appropriately.

What if I'm not comfortable in front of the camera?

That's completely normal.

You don't need to know how to pose or feel naturally comfortable being photographed.

I'll guide you throughout the session and give you prompts that encourage genuine interaction.

My goal is never to make you feel like you're performing for the camera.

How many photographs will we take?

We'll create a wide variety of photographs throughout your session, including traditional portraits, candid moments, individual photographs, family combinations, and detail images.

The exact number of final images depends on your session and collection.

The more important goal is making sure we capture the moments and relationships that matter to you.

Why Family Photographs Matter

Years from now, your children won't remember the details of every ordinary Tuesday.

They won't remember exactly what they wore.

They probably won't remember the toys scattered across the living room or how exhausted you were during those early years.

But photographs can bring those seasons back.

A photograph can remind you how tiny their hands once were.

It can remind you how your child used to hide behind your leg.

It can remind you of the way your partner held your newborn.

It can show your children what you looked like when you were younger.

And someday, those photographs may become part of their own family history.

That's why I don't think family photography is about creating perfect pictures.

It's about creating evidence of a life you lived together.

Let's Document Your Family

Your family doesn't have to look a certain way.

Your children don't have to behave perfectly.

You don't need to know how to pose.

And you don't need to wait for the "perfect" time.

Your family is already worth documenting.

Whether you're expecting a baby, celebrating a first birthday, watching your children grow, gathering multiple generations, or simply wanting photographs of the people you love most, I'd love to help you create something meaningful.

As a family photographer in Eugene, Oregon, my goal is to create photographs that feel natural, genuine, and full of connection.

We'll use beautiful locations, natural light, movement, and a little bit of guidance to create images that feel like your family—not a staged version of it.
