Self Portraits Just for the Hell of It: Because You Deserve to Be in the Photos, Too

When was the last time you had photographs taken of yourself simply because you wanted to?

Not for your business. Not for a graduation, someone else or some big life milestone. Just because you wanted to see yourself in a clean, artistic professional photograph.

I think we sometimes get so caught up in having a reason to be photographed that we forget we are reason enough.

Self-portrait sessions are about doing something for yourself. They are about stepping in front of the camera, letting go of expectations, exploring your personality, and creating images that make you feel good. No particular occasion required. No need to fit into a certain mold. Just you, exactly as you are, and a little room to have fun.

And honestly? I think that is a pretty wonderful reason to take photos.

You Don't Need a Reason to Celebrate Yourself

There is something really special about having photographs that are just for you.

Maybe you have been wanting to feel a little more confident. Maybe you have been going through a season of change. Maybe you have always wanted to try something creative but never quite felt like you had a good enough reason. Or maybe you just want some really beautiful photos of yourself.

All of those are valid reasons.

You don't have to wait until you lose weight, grow your hair out, feel more comfortable in your skin, or reach some imaginary version of yourself that you think is more deserving of being photographed.

You deserve to be seen now.

A self-portrait session can be a chance to celebrate who you are today. It can be playful, expressive, artistic, bold, soft, moody, or completely outside your comfort zone. There are no rules about what it has to look like.

The whole point is to create something that feels like you.

Let's Get Creative With It

One of my favorite things about self-portrait sessions is that they can be whatever you want them to be. We are not limited to one look, one location, or one style.

Think city streets, interesting architecture, textured walls, parking garages, downtown alleyways, colorful murals, and those little corners of a city that make for unexpectedly beautiful photographs.

Urban portraits can be edgy, fashion-inspired, playful, dramatic, or effortlessly cool. You can dress up, keep it casual, experiment with movement, or embrace a little attitude.

There is something about an urban setting that gives you permission to be a little bolder.

Nature Portraits

Maybe your vibe is a little more natural and relaxed.

Fields, forests, tall grasses, open spaces, rivers, flowers, and golden-hour light can create the most beautiful, organic images. Nature offers a chance to slow down, breathe, and connect with yourself in a different way.

These sessions can feel soft and romantic, adventurous, whimsical, or completely free-spirited.

And living in the Eugene, Oregon area, we have so many beautiful natural spaces to explore.

Studio Portraits

Want to try something a little more intentional or artistic?

Studio portraits offer a chance to experiment with lighting, shadows, backdrops, wardrobe, and different moods. We can keep things simple and timeless or create something dramatic and expressive.

Maybe you want a classic portrait. Maybe you want something editorial or fashion-inspired. Maybe you have an idea that you have been saving on Pinterest for years.

This is your opportunity to bring it to life.

And honestly, mixing styles and locations can be just as fun. There is no reason your session has to fit neatly into one category.

Confidence Doesn't Have to Come First

Let's talk about confidence for a minute.

I know that getting in front of a camera can feel intimidating. I hear it all the time.

"I don't know how to pose.""I'm not photogenic.""I never like pictures of myself.""I don't know what to do with my hands."

Trust me, you are not alone.

But here is the thing: you do not have to walk into a session feeling completely confident. Sometimes confidence comes from the experience itself.

It can come from trying something new. From realizing you actually look pretty amazing in a photograph. From seeing yourself in a different light. From having a moment where you stop worrying about what you look like and just enjoy being there.

You don't have to know how to pose. You don't have to be a model. You don't have to have everything figured out.

I will guide you through the process, help you find natural movement and poses, and make the experience feel easy, comfortable, and fun.

The goal isn't to turn you into someone else. It's to help you see the beauty in the person you already are.

Wear What Makes You Feel Like You

This is your session, so let's have some fun with your wardrobe.

Want to wear your favorite jeans and a simple top? Great.

Want to dress up in something a little extra? Absolutely.

Want to experiment with a different style, bring multiple outfits, or try something you would never normally wear? Let's do it.

Your wardrobe can be a reflection of your personality, the mood you want to create, or simply something that makes you feel good.

There is no right or wrong way to show up.

The same goes for hair, makeup, accessories, and all the little details. You can keep things simple and natural or go all out. Whatever feels right for you.

A Little Prep, A Lot of Personality

The best part of a self-portrait session is making it your own! You can come with a vision, a few ideas, or no plan at all. Here are a few things to consider before your session.

Bring a Little Personality

Want to incorporate your favorite book, coffee cup, guitar, flowers, items from your hobby or even your furry best friend? Absolutely! Personal items can add a fun, meaningful, or creative touch to your images. Think about the things you love and don't be afraid to bring them along.

Have Fun With It

You can gather a few inspiration photos or ideas, but there is no need to overthink it. Whether you want something natural, edgy, playful, or artistic, we can create images that feel like you.

You don't need modeling experience or to know how to pose. I'll guide you along the way. Just show up ready to have fun, get creative, and let yourself shine!

I will do all the posing! No need to know what you are doing! I got you <3

This Is Your Permission Slip

I think we spend a lot of our lives showing up for other people.

We take the photos of our kids. We capture family memories. We document birthdays, holidays, and all the little moments that matter. We are often the ones behind the camera, making sure everyone else is included.

But how often do we make space for ourselves?

How often do we do something simply because it makes us happy?

You don't need to wait for a milestone. You don't need to justify spending time on yourself. You don't need anyone else's approval.

You can book a photography session just because you want to.

Because you want to feel beautiful.Because you want to explore your creativity.Because you want to try something new.Because you want photographs that reflect who you are.Because you want to build a little confidence.Or simply because you think it would be fun.

That is more than enough.

Let's Make Some Photos That Are Completely You

Self-portrait sessions are about giving yourself the freedom to be creative, have fun, and see yourself in a new way.

Whether we are wandering around downtown Eugene, exploring a beautiful natural location, or creating something artistic in the studio, I want your session to feel like an experience you genuinely enjoy.

Something relaxed. Something fun. Something that lets you shine.

And when it is all said and done, you will have beautiful photographs of yourself that you can keep, share, or simply enjoy for your own reasons.

No branding. No milestone. No expectations.

Just you.

So, if you have been thinking about doing something a little different, consider this your invitation.

Let's create some beautiful photos of you, just for the hell of it.

Because you deserve to be in the photos, too.
